| Description: | The Director for Advocacy is the lead LIRS campaign strategist to ensure that the organization achieves its overall objectives in its key advocacy priority areas. The Director helps shape advocacy goals and assists the Vice President for Mission Advancement in coordinating and leading the process of developing an annual cross-departmental, cross-unit advocacy plan. The Director works to influence U.S. policy makers to promote protections for refugees and migrants. |
| Duties: | - Develop LIRS advocacy strategies to promote fair and humane refugee and immigration legislation and policies to Congress and the Administration.
- Write statements, policy briefs, blog posts, sign on letters, and other advocacy resources to influence policymakers, mobilize constituents, and generate media coverage.
- Represent LIRS in a number of NGO refugee and immigration coalitions.
- Lead LIRS in developing the annual advocacy plan, formulating policy positions, and ensuring a consistent message.
- Provide vision and direction for engaging constituents and partners in advocacy.
- Travel periodically to conduct field research and meet with church leaders, network partners, constituents, and refugees and migrants.
- Supervise LIRS Advocacy Office staff.

| Qualifications: | Deep commitment to LIRS's core values and ability to model those values in relationships with colleagues and partners. Bachelor's degree in political science, international affairs, or equivalent experience; law or master's degree strongly preferred. Five years of policy or advocacy work. Expertise in immigration and refugee policy. Expertise in federal and state legislative and administrative advocacy. Experience working with media. Travel 10 per cent of the time domestically or internationally. Excellent writing and public speaking skills. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines. Experience in a fast-pace work environment and supervising staff.
