| Description: | LIRS seeks a creative, hardworking and committed person to build, grow, and sustain LIRS's grassroots engagement strategy. The successful candidate must also have political campaign experience, strong verbal and written communications skills, and be adaptable to the fast-paced nature of life on the frontlines of modern social justice movements. Abilities to meet deadlines and to make good decisions in a timely fashion under pressure, along with attention to detail, are critical to this position. This position can be based out of Baltimore, MD or Washington DC. |
| Duties: | - Develop and execute campaign plans, create and drive campaign activities
- Develop field plans for each campaign
- Build relationships with key advocacy leaders and organizations in strategically-targeted communities across the country, with a primary emphasis on Lutheran and migrant and refugee community leaders
- Working in close collaboration with advocacy, communications, program, and development staff persons, ensure that strategies are aligned, relationships collectively managed, and resources used as efficiently and effectively as possible
- Recruit, train, and manage volunteer advocates in order to educate and involve Lutherans, migrants, refugees, and other key constituents in campaigns
- Create and manage content of grassroots and some advocacy-related webpages, blog, and social media community content
- Develop, update and give presentation s to varied audiences in order to grow advocacy base
- Design and manage process of responding to information requests, invitations, and events. Respond to and follow through with inquiries, needs, complaints, and/or issues in a prompt and courteous manner
- Monitor campaign email accounts, and others, and respond within 24-48 hours
- Manage the organization and maintenance of leadership rosters as determined by strategic review
- Create copy and vision for needed collateral to keep people engaged (newsletters, etc.)
- Engagement in agency -wide activities and initiatives including all-staff meetings, working groups or task forces and implementation of strategic initiatives.

| Qualifications: | - Deep commitment to LIRS's core values and ability to model those values in relationships with colleagues and partners.
- At least 3-5 years' experience in political campaigning required
- Bachelor's degree required, Political Science majors preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Ability to meet deadlines and to make good decisions in a timely fashion under pressure
- Familiarity and comfort with advocacy database systems such as Blackbaud Kintera Sphere or Convio required
- Familiarity with database systems such as Raiser's Edge
- Proven track record of a keen familiarity with the online world of internet advocacy and social media communities (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, Flickr, Pinterest, etc.)
- Knowledge of clerical procedures, such as word processing, managing files and records, designing forms, creating and using spreadsheets, and other office procedures, such as coordination of people and resources, planning, events, and resource allocation
- Strong interest in and knowledge of federal legislative process
- Strong commitment to engaging Lutherans and migrants and refugees as first-tier constituents
- Highly efficient in time management with an ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment
- Ability to synthesize and communicate complex political issues and policies in a clear and appealing manger to diverse groups
- Build strong relationships with strategically-identified politicians and community leaders
- Ability to assess demographics and strategize ways to efficiently and effectively reach the most Lutherans, migrants, refugees, and other key constituents to engage in advocacy and awareness-raising
- Appreciation and respect for Lutheran beliefs and values, church member motivations and sensitivities.
- Strong cultural competence and an appreciation for working with others from differing cultural backgrounds
- Ability to travel 25-30% of the time
- Proficiency in Spanish, preferred
