Description:Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service seeks a Gift Officer. The Gift Officer supports LIRS's ongoing mission of transforming communities into those of welcome for migrants and refugees by implementing a comprehensive strategy for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors, for the purpose of making large gifts in our 75th anniversary year and subsequent years.
Duties:1. Responsible for soliciting gifts from the mid-level ($1,000-$5,000) and major gifts $5,000+ from current donors and prospective donors

2. Ensuring these gifts fund programs that fit within the strategic priorities.

3. Coordinate with leadership on any significant asks, to ensure that LIRS is maximizing all existing relationships.

4. Manage relationships with approximately 75 prospective donors and will identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward these very important alumnae and friends of LIRS.   

5. Create, plan, and execute special events jointly hosted by current donors, volunteers and leaders of LIRS.

6. Monitors all prospect contacts to ensure positive and purposeful prospect and donor relations, participate in all aspects of the gift cycle:

  • Initiate contacts with potential leadership and major gift donors
  • Develop appropriate cultivation strategies for them, including working with volunteers
  • Move potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure
  • Make solicitations when appropriate
  • Maintain stewardship contacts with donors; adhere to the highest ethical standards; demonstrate empathetic disposition, and perseverance; reflect optimistic and positive attitude, and convey sensitivity to needs of the donors

7. Write all proposals for large gifts from donors and ensure that these gifts fit within the strategic priorities by coordinating with leadership. 

8. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications: 
  1. Deep commitment to LIRS's core values and ability to model those values in relationships with colleagues and partners.
  2. Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred or equivalent experience. 
  3. Experience in working within refugee or migrant populations strongly preferred.
  4. Three to five years successful experience in resource development required.
  5. Experience in meeting with donors individually required.  Preferred experience in soliciting major gifts.
  6. Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) preferred
  7. Experience with and commitment to working in a very diverse workforce.
  8. Appreciation and respect for Lutheran beliefs and values, church member motivations and sensitivities.
  9. Ability to connect and inspire donors to partner in our mission.
  10. Excellent interpersonal communication skills with aptitude to listen and ask leading questions that encourage prospects and donors to talk about themselves and their activities.
  11. Demonstrated leadership experience in a professional or volunteer organization setting, campaign-related giving initiatives and fundraising experience preferred.
  12. Excellent writing, editing, research and presentation skills.
  13. Excellent attention to detail and demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
  14. Ability to understand the needs and interests of leadership and major gift donors in order to develop relationships between them and the organization.
  15. Interest in all aspects of LIRS's work and a dedication to promoting the organization's fundraising priorities through developing excellent relationships with staff, board members, volunteers, and the mission advancement team.
  16. Demonstrated leadership and the ability to successfully manage multi-functional or diverse areas.
  17. Successful experience in making cold calls as well as developing cultivation and solicitation strategies.
  18. Must have excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated record of completing assignments.
  19. Must work well autonomously and be self- directed with a keen focus on meeting goals.
  20. Must be willing to travel extensively.
