Outreach Programs Intern

Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (URS), is seeking an Outreach Programs Intern who will assist the Outreach team in expanding its capacity to facilitate two major programs. Reporting to the Program Manager for Outreach, this position will provide essential support to final reporting of the Hope for the Holidays program and the design and implementation of the Stand Up, Speak Up program, which engages communities across the country in tangible acts of advocacy and reflection on their role in the US immigration and refugee resettlement systems.

Located in LIRS's Baltimore office, this is a part-time (10-15) hours per week) opportunity for a duration of 3 months with an expected state date of January 2021.

This is an unpaid internship. To be eligible, students must be enrolled at an accredited college/university OR be receiving funding through public interest grant funds or other similar resource. This internship is offered in the Fall. Interns are expected to work 14-40 hours per week, depending on the semester. Interns are responsible for arranging their own housing and for covering related expenses during the duration of the program.

  • Work with internal LIRS staff to craft a final report and draft communications for the end of the Hope for the Holidays program.
  • Work with internal LIRS staff to finalize and implement the Stand Up, Speak Up program.
  • Research and manage key data on programmatic needs from the affiliate network.
  • Track program activity and participation data throughout the course of the program.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners on designing and branding new and existing volunteer and training resources.
  • Performing other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Commitment to URS's core mission and values and an ability to model those values in relationship with colleagues and partners.
  • Working towards a bachelor's degree in a related field (communications, marketing, campaign management, business administration).
  • Knowledge of basic program management.
  • Ability to quickly master substantive subject matter and work dependently and under pressure.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to tailor persuasive messages to different audiences including policymakers, constituents and colleagues.
  • Ability to maintain and nurture professional relationships with affiliate network staff and Lutheran partners.
  • Experience in event planning.
