| Description: | Position Objective: To ensure that the general ledger reflects a fair presentation of the LIRS financial position at all times, by translating LIRS activities into appropriate accounting transactions. |
| Duties: | - Lead the monthly accounting close ensuring compliance to LIRS policies and procedures, timeliness, and fair representation of financial data.
- Prepare routine entries and those needed for unique activities.
- Coordinate and review the submission of all routine entries by other staff.
- Use knowledge of program activities to analyze results, identifying any issues and preparing correcting entries
- Key entries in the general ledger, run, and distribute reports as needed to complete month end on time.
- Prepare timely and meaningful reconciliations of general ledger accounts; review reconciliations prepared by others.
- Research miscellaneous items and respond to ad hoc requests from the rest of the agency.
- Support accounting and grants finance staff by identifying appropriate accounting treatment for new situations.
- Back-up accounting unit functions as needed.
- Support the Director of Accounting in ad hoc projects and other job related duties as assigned.

| Qualifications: | - Commitment to LIRS's core mission and values and an ability to model those values in relationship with colleagues, and partners
- Bachelor's degree in accounting required; 2 or more years experience in nonprofit accounting preferred
- Knowledge of U.S. government grant-making rules and regulations preferred
- Demonstrated ability to translate program activity into financial data by identifying proper accounting treatment, applying accounting principles, and identifying & resolving accounting issues with evidence of good judgment
- Highly proficient in using general ledger software and Microsoft Office applications
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; willingness to learn, to receive, and to give honest feedback in a way that is sensitive to the needs of others. Demonstrated ability to communicate technical accounting issues to non-accountants in a simple way.
- Ability to anticipate priorities and organize work in view of deliverables required of the team; proficiency in carrying out multiple tasks efficiently and on deadline
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team with commitment to proactively take initiative in resolving issues to achieve goals; desire to serve and support others
